Cairo Times Volume 5, Issue

The Cultural Walk got off to a mellow start
last Friday night 15 June with a performance by the American jazz group the
Fine Wine Trio. Among seven jazz trios chosen by the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts to represent American music overseas, Fine Wine chose to regale
their audiences with a selection of Louis Armstrong tunes in celebration of
that musical legends 100th birthday. Bassist Gene Perla says that jazz
was chosen because "its the only original American art form." The group
has also gathered inspiration from indigenous music that they are actively
seeking out while on this tour that also includes Morocco, Zambia, Kenya,
Rwanda and Jordan. |
